From Horizon to Danantara

The first edition release of our Horizon White Paper unexpectedly caught the attention of KOMPAS’ Research and Development team (Litbang KOMPAS). That spark laid the foundation for a deeper collaboration. This time, the scale was different. The subject was Danantara, a newly established sovereign wealth fund whose presence stirred national attention and demanded to be unpacked.

Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency, commonly known as Danantara Indonesia, is the second sovereign wealth fund in the country, following the Indonesian Investment Authority. Barely weeks after its launch in February 2025, Litbang KOMPAS moved swiftly to initiate an in-depth report. The goal was to break down Danantara’s formation and explore how the public receives it.

Litbang KOMPAS is no stranger to publishing exclusive white papers for their exclusive subscribers. But for this one, they sought a different approach. One that was not only rich in substance but also elevated through thoughtful design. That’s where Stellaris1 came in.

Teaming up for greatness

Within such a short timeline, we created a digital white paper that reflects the wider perspective of Danantara’s existence. The goal was clear: to present a refined, modern, and clear visual design while maintaining the authority that Litbang KOMPAS has built over time.

They handled the research and editorial process in full detail. We focused on design, layout, illustration, and data visualization. Since the main format was digital, we ensured that every element, from typography to infographics, was optimized for mobile. We used a single-column layout to make scrolling more intuitive and enjoyable.

A necessary kind of pressure

This was not a small project by any measure. Both Danantara and Litbang KOMPAS are huge names in their respective fields, and the timing of this report was critical. Public discourse surrounding sovereign wealth funds was heating up, and the urgency to deliver a timely, well-informed, and neutral perspective became non-negotiable. All of this had to be done in less than a week. Under any other circumstances, the timeframe would have raised serious concerns. Here, it became a testament to how efficient collaboration and focused project management can lead to extraordinary output.

They had already done the heavy lifting in terms of research and editorial direction. What we received was a collection of solid, paragraph-based insights. Our role was to translate that into a compelling visual form. Not just to decorate, but to emphasize. We built data visualizations, structured layouts, and crafted visual cues that brought rhythm and depth to otherwise dense materials. Every design decision was made with intention, to respect the nuance of the data and to respect the intelligence of the reader.

Furthermore, Litbang KOMPAS also needed an actual refreshment from their usual design styles. They were speaking to a somewhat wide audience: Indonesians aged 25 to 54, from university students to working professionals. These readers are not just casually browsing. They are curious but time-constrained. Therefore, visual experience is the key to engaging them all. It had to invite, retain, and guide their attention through facts and insights that mattered. We weren’t here to oversimplify. We were here to reframe, so complex ideas become accessible, not diluted.

Most importantly, neutrality was a crucial aspect. While the visual tone had to be eye-catching, we ensured that the content never leaned into bias or dramatization. In the age of polarized narratives, that balance between clarity and neutrality is more than rare, it is necessary. And it is exactly what this white paper set out to achieve.

The final words

This exclusive digital white paper is just one chapter in the partnership between Litbang KOMPAS and Stellaris1. Time after time, we’ve proven that when design and journalism align, they can shape the narrative and drive real impact. Today, we live in a world with such noise and uncertainty, and what we need is clarity. This collaboration is our commitment to that clarity. It’s more than just presenting information; it’s about empowering the audience with insights that matter. As Litbang KOMPAS continues to lead with integrity and influence, we stand ready to push the boundaries of what design and data-driven insight can achieve, together.
